Feedback on Our New TellStick

Dear Telldus Premium Users,

We hope this message finds you well. We want to start by expressing our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in our customer survey regarding our new TellStick. The feedback we receive from our loyal customers is invaluable to us.

Customer Satisfaction and Survey Results

We are pleased to announce that most respondents expressed satisfaction with Telldus Live!, our dedicated platform for enhancing smart home functionality, aesthetics, and automation. Over the past three months, we have focused on stability and maintenance, but now we are beginning to direct significant efforts towards developing and upgrading the service.

Approximately 62% of the survey responses indicated satisfaction with the protocols we plan to support in our new TellStick, which includes ZigBee, Bluetooth, WiFi, and MQTT. However, we noted that many of you expressed a desire for the new TellStick to support 433MHz and Z-Wave devices. We greatly appreciate your engagement and have thoroughly investigated the possibility of meeting these requests, but we encountered significant challenges.

Why We Cannot Support 433MHz Devices

Our analysis showed that many of our current users use 433MHz devices in their smart home systems. Unfortunately, the hardware required to support 433MHz has reached the end of its lifecycle. Finding new compatible components has proven to be both challenging and time-consuming, which would significantly delay the development of the new TellStick. Integrating new hardware would require extensive redevelopment efforts that are not feasible within our current timelines and available resources.

Additionally, we believe that the majority of our existing TellSticks will outlast the availability of 433MHz products on the market. The declining number of manufacturers of 433MHz chips and components underscores our decision to focus on more sustainable and future-proof technologies.

Why We Cannot Support Z-Wave Devices

Support for Z-Wave presents another set of challenges, primarily related to cost. The components required for Z-Wave are expensive, and the licensing fees for the necessary certifications further increase the overall cost. This makes it economically unfeasible for us to include support for Z-Wave in our new TellStick without significantly raising the price, which we believe would not be in the best interest of our customers.

What Our New TellStick Will Offer

Our new TellStick will offer a range of exciting features and improvements. It will support modern communication protocols including ZigBee, Bluetooth, WiFi, and MQTT. These protocols are widely adopted and offer better scalability, security, and compatibility with a large number of smart home devices.

Our new TellStick will be fully integrated with Telldus Live!, ensuring that you can manage your smart home seamlessly whether you have old or new TellSticks at home.

Compatibility with Old and New Devices

We understand that transitioning to a new system can be challenging when you have set up and programmed a number of devices. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that you can use your current TellStick together with the new one in the same system. This compatibility ensures that you do not need to replace all your existing devices immediately and can upgrade at your own pace. We remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all our users.

Timeline for the New TellStick

We understand that you have been eagerly awaiting a new TellStick since 2023, and we are pleased to announce that it is in the final stages of development. We expect to launch it this fall. Your patience and support have been invaluable to us, and we are confident that our new TellStick will offer enhanced features and a more future-proof solution for your smart home.

Moving Forward Together

We truly appreciate your feedback and support throughout the process. Your insights have been crucial in shaping the development of our new TellStick. Many of your comments and preferences have been directly incorporated into our development sprints.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.
