Getting started

Do I need a hub, bridge or WiFi?

No. Everything runs over Bluetooth directly between your phone and the device. There is no gateway to buy and nothing to connect to your router.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the app and start. No registration, no password, no subscription.

How do I add a device?

Tap the + in the top right, or Add device on the home screen. [Edwin: what happens next — does it scan automatically, does the bulb need to be freshly powered on?]

Why can’t the app find my bulb?

  • Check that Bluetooth is on and that FlowEasy has permission to use it
  • Make sure the bulb has power and is switched on at the wall
  • Move closer — a first pairing needs you within a few metres
  • If the bulb was paired to another phone or app before, reset it first

How do I reset a device?

[Edwin: exact reset procedure — number of power cycles and timing]

What does “Trying to connect to the network” mean?

The app is looking for your devices over Bluetooth. It clears once it reaches one of them. If it stays, check Bluetooth is on and that you are within range of a powered device.

Everyday use

What is the difference between a scene and a timer?

A scene is a set of devices with chosen states — this lamp on at 50%, that one off, another warm white — recalled together whenever you want it. A timer makes something happen at a time you choose.

Do timers keep working when my phone is off?

Yes. Timers are stored inside each device and run on their own once set.

What is the astro timer?

It switches a device on or off relative to sunrise or sunset where you are, rather than at a fixed clock time. The app needs your approximate position to work that out. [Confirm: does the app need reopening periodically to refresh astro times as the seasons change?]

How far does it reach?

Roughly 30 metres in the open, less through walls. Devices relay to each other, so once you have a few installed you can usually reach all of them from anywhere in the home.

Can someone else in my household control the lights?

Yes — use Share my lamps in the menu. [Edwin: how does the second phone receive the share?]

What does “Update devices” do?

It installs new firmware on your bulbs and plugs over Bluetooth. Worth running once after you first set everything up, especially with devices bought at different times.

What does “Migrate” do?

[Edwin: what does Migrate actually move — devices between homes, between phones, or from the old Smartline Flow app?]

Can I still use the physical remote?

Yes. The Time to Take Control remote works alongside the app and mounts on a wall with its bracket. [Confirm: does pairing a remote affect app pairing?]

Compatibility

Which phones does FlowEasy run on?

[Edwin: minimum iOS and Android versions]

My box says Smartline Flow. Is this the right app?

Yes. FlowEasy controls the same hardware.

Does it work with Google Home, Alexa, HomeKit or Matter?

No. Those need a hub or a cloud connection, and FlowEasy has neither by design.
